Communication and visualisation is an important part of life. Not a single being can pass a day without using at least one of these two skills; which is why I find studying these skills an important part of my degree in Fashion Accessory Design. As a designer, possessing excellent communication and visualisation skills is vital in order to create and sell a product/idea. My first major project in my degree is focused on both communication and visualisation. I find this inspiring as these skills take part in every aspect of our lives. The aim of my project is to explore different subjects that inspire me such as architecture, designers etc; in order to produce a series of designs as an outcome. My project will explore different methods of communication and visualisation throughout the design process. I will portray my knowledge and understanding of these skills through use of different media to communicate my ideas and designs to others. This blog will make part of my project through communicating my designs and ideas, as well as my thought processes and comments throughout the project.
I began my project by making a mind map of all the things that interested me. Visually, I find 1920's/30's fashion very inspiring due to the androgynous silhouettes and sheer volume of decor i.e. layering of costume jewellery and embellished garments. I also thought about other eras in fashion such as the 1950's, that may inspire me. I decided to investigate the history of fashion accessories in detail in order to see how accessories have evolved over the years, what kinds of accessories are/were popular and how I can make traditional accessories into something contemporary. To continue my mind map, I listed some artists that inspire me including accessory and fashion designers; including McQueen, Lanvin and Etro. These designers may influence my ideas further on in the project. I also listed the different types of accessories that are/have been available on the market.
I decided to record my ideas in a sketchbook in order to communicate these clearly and visually. Using mood boards as inspiration helped me to create initial ideas and will also allow me to communicate my ideas visually to others. My mood boards provide me with a visual aid with which I will be able to generate original ideas with a clear link to my inspiration boards.
